Upon invitation to reflect on the notion of transparency, that led me into the forest to envelop the contour of a large stone with fragments of mirror. The large stone, tucked away deep in the woods, became a reflective surface for its surroundings. In this play of splintered radiance, the rock disappears in its reflections. Because it reflects one cannot be mislead by its presence, yet we cannot seize it, rather it is the rock that reflects us.

Superficial nos invita a reflexionar sombre la idea de transparencia que nos conduce dentro del bosque para cubri el contorno de una piedra grande con trozos de cristal. La monumental piedra desaparece entre la madera y empieza a ser una superficie reflejante de todo lo que le rodea. En este juego de astillas reflejadas, la roca desaparece en estos reflejos. Porque el reflejo no puede engañarnos ya que al fin y al cabo es presencia y no podemos cambiarle el tamaño prefiero que sea una roca que nos refleja.

The Pavilion by Jiyeon Song.

Using a complex array of perforations, light passing through the pavilion’s surface produces shifting patterns, which transform into the legible text of a poem.

The specific arrangements of the perforations reveal different poems according to the solar calendar: a theme of new-life during the summer solstice. During summer solstice, the poem will contain the theme of “new life”. During winter solstice, the poem will be on “reflection and the passing of time.”

The pavilion is reminiscent of a geodesic dome. When daylight filters through the perforations on the surface, a poem becomes revealed on the ground as a projection. The resulting effect is inviting and magical.


Within the pavilion, the poem can be seen between 8 AM and 4PM. The poem consists of 5 lines with each line lasting about an hour. The slowness of message offers us a meditative moment within our hectic lives.

Pavilion recuerda una cúpula geodesica donde la luz del dia se filtra a través de una selección compleja de perforaciones que se encuentran en la superficie. A través de ellas, un poema empieza a aparecer en la proyección. el efecto es atractivo y magico.

La disposición específica de las perforaciones revela diferentes poemas deacuerdo con el calendario solar: donde puede sugerirse el tema de nueva vida durante el solticio de verano y durante el solticio de invernio el poema podría ser una reflexión sobre paso del tiempo.

Con Pavilion, el poema puede ser visto entre las ocho de la mañana y las cuatro de la tarde. El poema consiste en cinco lineas que duran alrededor de una hora. La lentitud del mensaje nos da la oportunidad de meditar sobre la vida agetreada que llevamos.
